The paper "Agent-based supply chain management. Parts 1 and 2" by Nirupam Julka, Raj Srinivasan and IA Karimi was selected as the Best Paper of 2002 by Computers and Chemical Engineering journal.

As announced in the Vol 28, Issue 9 of the journal, the paper "...was cited for presenting an innovative and complete framework for modeling and studying the entities and relationships in a multi-entity supply chain. The framework uses the concept of software agents which allows emulation of the supply chain at different levels of granularity. While use of agent constructs have been previously reported in design and concurrent engineering applications, this is the first application oriented for decisions support of supply chain management. The application study involves a full range of refinery departments, oil suppliers, and third party logistics providers. "
